- Depressed teenagers may feel that there is no hope that their situation can or will get better
- Developmentally, teenagers normally should be thinking about their future and what they will contribute
- Depression can lead to distorted thoughts that there will be no contribution and there is no hope for the future
Feelings of Guilt or Worthlessness
- In its mildest form, people start doubting their abilities and those traits they used to have confidence in
- As it becomes more severe, thoughts become centered around being a burden to others or not contributing to a group or family or society
- Also when severe, those with depression will begin to not believe positive statements others say about them
